A Neighbourhood Calendar

I can’t believe it is November already. Hard to believe it, especially because we should be having some warm and sunny days here in OZ by now. Instead we are getting lots of rain and 16ºC days.
So since we are so close to the end of the year I am happy to show you this very cool 2011 calendar in which I participated. It features twelve of the loveliest neighbourhoods from Melbourne and beyond (including Brooklyn), carefully selected and illustrated by eleven of Australia’s most talented illustrators… and by me!

The calendar is a project by Lucy Feagins from The Design Files, published by Jeremy Wortsman from Jacky Winter / Lamington Drive Gallery and designed by Kat Macleod and Liz Wilson at Ortolan.

Illustrators include Beci Orpin, James Gulliver Hancock, Kat chadwick, Kat Macleod, Madeleine Stamer, Webuyyourkids amongst  others.

I was asked to illustrate Darlinghurst which is a lovely inner-city suburb here in Sydney and I had good fun drawing it. They gave me the colour palette to be used so it gave me the chance to work with colours I don’t normally use. From that moment I knew the result would be surprising and refreshing for me.
It doesn’t show on these previews but orange is fluoro!

I have included some photos Lucy sent. I still have to see it in flesh! If you want to have a better look you can click here and maybe buy one? Limited edition A2 prints are for sale too. Exhibition launches November 18 so you still have time to catch a plane.

Executive travel

Some spots I did for Executive Travel Magazine.

Weekend in Melbourne

Last weekend we went to Melbourne for the UCI Road World Championships. We had the best time and we managed to pack in four days not only the races but a visit to Tim Burton's exhibition, a visit to the new JackyWinter headquarters, nice walks and great food!
I got to see cancellara's thighs although we did to much walking and I had sore legs.

Meanjin Quarterly

Meanjin Quarterly is a journal founded in 1940 and known primarily as a literary magazine. Nowdays it's a publication of the University of Melbourne and beautifully designed by Chase & Galley.
I did the illustrations for the cover and dividers for the latest number which was about Melbourne and its culture.
You can find more previews on my website.

Mission Dolores

A few months ago I had some short holidays in San Francisco. It was my first time there and stayed for a couple of days with friends in Mission. It's such a beautiful city, it's similar to Sydney in some ways. The houses and buildings are so beautiful and I loved the buses that can carry bikes, those were new for me!
The thing is that my friends are leaving San Francisco for good so I thought I could draw their 'latino' neighbourhood for them to remember it wherever they move to. Oh, of course that's their Smart car.

New editorial illos

I went on holidays for a week and came back to see a couple of illustrations published. Some for Prevention Magazine and the other on the Sunday Telegraph Magazine.
It's always exciting to see drawings published!

That brain image reflects my oun brain in a way, sometimes I feel I should get a defragmentation!

Old Providence

I was looking through my hard drive and found this old photos we took in 2003 in Old Providence (A tiny island in the Caribbean with a very particular culture and way of life). I have the best memories from there and really hope to go back.
I took the two on the left with an Olympus trip, slide film and forced process. The right one was taken by Daniel with a Pentax K1000 and slide film.
